In the November 18, 2008 issue of the Ontario Farmer there was a report of a silo being filled with high moisture corn that collapsed. We understand that this silo was rebuilt with used Harvestore® panels taken from another structure. Engineered Storage Products Company - the manufacturer of Harvestore® structures - wants to advise all Ontario farmers that this collapsed silo was not built by an Authorized Harvestore® Sales & Service Dealer. The silo was constructed by a builder who is not authorized by or associated with Engineered Storage Products Company.

Engineered Storage Products Company designs and manufactures Harvestore® structures for on-farm feed storage, which are constructed on-site by factory trained builders that are part of our Authorized Dealer network. Rebuilt Harvestore® structures are also offered by our Authorized Dealers who erect them to the original factory specifications using Harvestore® rebuild or expansion kits. The capacity of a rebuilt Harvestore® structure can be increased by adding additional rings of panels, which must be properly sized to meet engineered specifications.

To ensure the integrity of your rebuilt silo using used Harvestore® panels, please make sure that the erection contractor is an Authorized Harvestore® Dealer. The failure to insist on an authorized builder may result in these structures not being rebuilt to the strict original Harvestore® specifications. Any changes in design height, diameter, or material specifications such as shell sheet thickness, bolt hole spacing, bolt sizing and strength, or use of inadequate foundation components, may put a silo structure at risk for possible structural failure resulting in a significant loss of income and property as well as potential personal injury.
